Speaking today about PIAGET, one shouldn’t forget that originally it was a watch brand. The history of the House of PIAGET began in 1874 in a tiny village of La Cote-aux-Fees (from an old French expression meaning the Sheep’s Hillside) nestled deep in the heart of the Swiss Jura – the main “watchmaking” region of Switzerland, near the French border. To while away long winter evenings, when there was no need to work in the field and to pasture sheep, the Piaget family with many other villagers took up the crafting of high-precision watch movements and soon Georges Edouard Piaget became an expert in the exacting watchmaking techniques.Soon the manufacture of high-quality watch mechanisms grew into a family business, and it wasn’t long before Edouard’s 14 children started helping their father. For nearly seven decades the Piagets were supplying their mechanisms to the most prestigious watchmaking companies but this business remained seasonal for them. Only in 1940-ies the company started producing its own watches and in 1943 PIAGET was registered as a brand.Successive generations have each played their part, contributing to the development of the family business. Valentin Piaget, grandson of founder Georges Edouard, was the ideologist of the launch in 1956 of the world’s first ultra-thin movement – the famed 9P manually-wound caliber. Four years later the new whisper- thin self-winding caliber 12P was registered in the Guinness Book of Records. In the mid-1970s the company patented the world’s thinnest quartz mechanism – 7P caliber and in 2002 the flattest shaped tourbillon movement 3,5 mm thick was launched. In its constant quest for perfection, 1957 saw PIAGET take the bold decision to use exclusively precious metals (gold and platinum) in the manufacture of its watches, placing equal emphasis on aesthetics and technical excellence.Today, the movements for Piaget watches are still developed and manufactured at La Cote-aux-Fees while watch assembly and finishing – since 2001 – have taken place just outside Geneva at the new state-of-the-art facility.Among the admirers of the brand there are many famous persons from different spheres of life - Fidel Castro and Gina Lollobridgida, Jacky Kennedy and Mireille Mathieu not to mention today’s stars.Current specialization of PIAGET is jewel watches and jewellery and its exclusive is a watch and jewellery at the same time (horloger et joaillerier), sensu stricto - “2 in 1”. Otherwise how one can call, for example, a watch-ring in the form of an overblown flower, a watch-pendant, a watch-bag lock, a watch-cufflink?The spectrum of PIAGET’s classic watch collections includes: Black Tie (1950-60s) – historical collection re-interpreted in the early 21st century, masculine and elegant one; Piaget Polo (1979) – status symbol and casual chic at the same time; Dancer (1986) – classical gold watch on the bracelet, natural marriage of classicism, elegance and timelessness; Miss Protocole (1998) – stylish ladies fashion watches of original and immediately recognizable design with interchangeable bracelets; Piaget Altiplano (1998) – pure, laconic lines in the combination with the ultra-thin movement; Piaget Emperador (а part of the Black Tie Collection) (1999) – in its basis – an original model of 1957, on its credit side – a lot of prestigious awards; Possession (2005) – continuation of the famous jewellery collection, original concept movement enclosed in the case framed with diamond-set bezel; and of course, Limelight – the embodiment of the exclusive brand concept, horloger et joaillerier.Since 1988 PIAGET has been a member of the Richemont Group, one of the largest world’s “luxury” holdings. Thanks to this, the company has obtained the “second breath” and now is again on the creative and business rise. The Eurotime watch shop proudly presents a wide assortment of PIAGET watches to everybody’s taste and for different events from all PIAGET collections.
